Overhead Power and Free Conveyors

Overhead Power & Free Conveyors are an adaptation of the Overhead Trolley Conveyor and the free line conveyor for product delivery, storage, or assembly.  Power and Free Conveyors can navigate both horizontal turns and vertical inclines.

SSI Power & Free Cam-Dog® Trolleys

SSI Cam-Dog® Trolleys are produced in house in our plants as a machine shop function, using machining, assembly, and checking fixtures, throughout our manufacturing processes.

A major feature of SSI's Cam-Dog® Trolley is the interchangeability of leading, intermediate, and trailing trolleys.

Conversion kits are available from SSI to upgrade intermediate units to either leading or trailing assemblies, at a fraction of new trolley cost.

SSI's 3" Cam-Dog®, 4" Cam-Dog®, and 6" Cam-Dog® handle loads from 20 Ibs. to 20,000 Ibs. with appropriate load bars.

All SSI Power & Free trolleys may be furnished with either standard or full ball complement wheels, depending on application and desired load carrying capacities. All trolleys have applicable machine surfaces, and close tolerance contours. The complete trolley is machined in a fixture, and quality checks assured through dimension verifying jigs. SSI's trolleys perform admirably in Paint Finishing Systems, foundries, and through shot blast machines. The entire trolley design is based upon simplicity, ease of maintenance, and above-normal life expectancy of other type Power & Free trolley assemblies.

Power & Free Cam-Dog® Leading Accumulating Trolley

Our innovative single piece body casting leading "cam accumulating" trolleys are among the strongest and most durable in the industry. Ease of maintenance is facilitated by our unique design. All rollers, bearings, connecting pins and linkages may be replaced at the job site when desired.

Our trolley is based on the old principle of an "incline plane" to dissipate energy and release the pusher dog from the chain driving dog through simple cam action.

SSI's "Cam-Dog®" is symmetrically designed for the effective use of the center of gravity and stability of the trolley.

Power & Free Cam-Dog® Intermediate Accumulating Trolley

Our intermediate trolley has maximum interchangeability with our cam-dog accumulating and beaver tail trailing trolley assembly.

Power & Free Cam-Dog® Trailing Accumulating Trolley

SSI manufactures five (5) standard variations of the "beaver tail" Trailing Trolley for Accumulating Systems. All Trolleys meet Industry Standards and have conventional features as well as unusual strength. The added strength and load-carrying capacities of SSI Trolleys is due to a uniquely designed “single piece body casting construction".

Our Trolleys are highly resistant to impact loading. Additionally, liberal use of "high alloy" wear surfaces, where practical, provides long wearing, easily accessible Trolley Assemblies. Conversion kits are available to interchange leading, intermediate and trailing Trolleys.

SSI Chain

The standard SSI Power & Free Conveyor uses drop forged, rivetless chain. The chain features strong side bars and center links, and is flexible on vertical dips and horizontal bends. SSI offers three standard types of chain:

  1. #348 Chain - For light individual loads and chain pulls not exceeding 2000 lbs., with 1500 lbs. as a recommended maximum per drive unit.
  2. #458 Chain - For medium individual loads, and chain pulls not exceeding 3500 lbs., with 2500 lbs. as a recommended maximum per drive unit.
  3. #678 Chain - For heavy individual loads, and chain pulls not exceeding 6000 lbs., with 4500 lbs. as a recommended maximum per drive unit.

Power & Free Air-Operated Stops

SSI air-operated Power & Free Stops are unique in their design simplicity. The unit is activated by an over-sized air cylinder and incorporates a "non-binding" linkage between the air cylinder and the tool steel slide bar blade. Pressure points are equipped with an Alemite grease fitting for ease of relube.

The angled degree of the stop allows retraction of the stop blade with minimum force.

SSI air-operated Power & Free Stops are available for all size Power & Free Systems, and may be easily added to existing Power & Free Conveyers without special cutting and/or modification of the existing track.

Anti-Backup Devices

Free Line Anti-Backups are used to stop carriers from "bouncing" backwards at stops and in banks. SSI units operate on center guide roller of free trolley for more exact locating of carrier. Anti-Backups can be installed without track modifications.

Power & Free Solid Pusher Dog

SSI manufactures side-link Solid Dog Pushers for 348, 458, and 678 chain assemblies. The pusher is made of a heat-treated, drop-forged steel construction, providing the ultimate in strength and wearability.

SSI side-link Pushers may be installed on the chain assembly utilizing regular chain pins.

Power & Free Track Sections

SSI standard Power & Free Track Sections are available in four (4) power chains and three (3) free channel arrangements.

All SSI Power & Free Track Sections are "jig welded" to assure alignment accuracy of track sections. When desired, special alloy tracks are furnished to meet corrosive, or any other contaminating conditions.

Power & Free Vertical Curves

SSI's standard Power & Free vertical curve sections are available in four (4) basic power rail, and three (3) free channel arrangements.

All vertical curves are jig welded to insure alignment and accuracy of track section of the finished product. SSI high-alloy steel is used throughout to minimize wear and provide long life.

In special corrosive conditions and/or contaminating atmospheres, stainless steel track sections and plated track are available.

Standard radii meet most Power & Free requirements; however, SSI can supply special radii and special degree to meet specific load or space requirements.

All SSI vertical curves for Power & Free Systems incorporate "chain guides" to assure engagement of pusher dog with free trolley assembly at all times.

Power & Free Air-Operated Track Switches

SSI Power & Free "Exit Switches" are equipped with air cylinders for movement of the switch blade. SSI-Memphis track switches incorporate standard parts for all switches to minimize spare parts inventory and assure interchangeability. All track switches are heavy duty and of proven, field-tested design.

Power & Free Exit Switch

SSI Power & Free exit switches are manufactured on stock orders, and feature interchangeable dimensions for various types of switch units.

The nomenclature for determining the type of switch required is obtained by looking directly into the tip of the switch tongue blade; i.e. a track turning to the right would be a right -hand switch #8062, if the Power rail is run straight.

Power & Free Merge Switches

All SSI Merge Switches are trolley activated, and do not require air cylinders or any other type of secondary actuator. The particular hand of switch is determined by looking at the tip of the switch blade, and observing the flow of the carrier; i.e. if the power track remains straight, the free rail turns to the left, and then switch #8102 would be utilized.

All Merge switches are built to common dimensions for interchangeability in the field.
