Since 1968, Southern Systems, Inc. has been engineering, manufacturing, and installing heavy duty, custom conveyor systems, electrical controls, and automation equipment for all industries from automobile assembly (28 plants) to package handling, distribution centers, agricultural and farm implement equipment, military, and food processing with worldwide installations that spread from Seattle to Singapore and Iran to Mexico.
SSI produces virtually all types of conveyors, specializing in heavy-duty conveyors. Product handling capabilities vary from overnight express letters to large military tanks weighing 110,000 lbs. SSI has also designed systems to automatically weigh, melt and pour Composition "B" into bomb casings, with computer controls to maintain live inventory of thousands of parts on miles of conveyor track.
SSI invented the Cam-Dog® single-piece power and free trolley for both overhead power & free conveyors and inverted power & free conveyors, developed the TracVeyor® towline conveyor, and invented and patented the first OpTrac® optical code reader, the most accurate control system available for conveyors to route, dispatch and maintain in-process inventory, from raw materials to final shipping.
The SSI Control Shop is a UL approved facility, in which SSI engineers developed some of the very first PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) applications for conveyor projects in the United States.
The SSI Panel Shop builds enclosures, from single-door to complete oil refinery instrumentation systems.
As an innovator and leader in the conveyor industry, SSI raised the industry standard for quality by achieving ISO 9001 Registration in June 1998. Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., an internationally recognized quality system registrar, certified SSI’s Quality System for the design, manufacture and installation of conveyor systems to the requirements of ISO 9001.

ISO 9001 Registration assures customers that SSI’s Quality System meets internationally recognized standards of quality.
The SSI corporate headquarters as well as three other facilities are located in Memphis, Tennessee with a satellite plant, located in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
